JOHN M. BELL
Paintings in Oils and Acrylics
of Scotland, Ireland, and rural Virginia.
My works are painted on panels or canvas that I often prepare with a ground of gessoed sand of varying textures. The color and texture effects are created with multiple layers of glazed (transparent) and scumbled (opaque) pigments.
I usually work in series: creating multiple works in which I work with the same basic subject or theme. This allows me to creatively explore both the form and content.
The series shown here are: "An Turas (The Journey)"; "Atmospheric Perspectives"; "Sign Language"; "Age/Old".
I have also added "Recent Works" - paintings completed in recent months.
